It is your responsibility as sysop to ensure that all messages from your
system bear a proper origin line. The origin line is placed at the end
of messages originating on your BBS automatically by your network mail
software, and must contain the network name "MSI SupportNET", your BBS
name, location and, if there is sufficient space on the line, your BBS
phone number including area code.
An offline mail reader tag with this information is NOT acceptable.
Proper network routing depends on proper network origin lines on all
messages, appended by the network mail software itself. However there
are a number of ways the software can be mis-configured to prevent the
proper origin line from being added to your messages.
The most likely possibility is that you've given NETSYSOP status to one
or more security profiles on your own BBS. Check by running TCMAINT --
make sure NO security profiles are flagged for net status, because this
prevents messages from being tagged by TNET when they are exported
later. The only security profiles that should have the netstatus dot
toggled on are ones being used by BBSs calling YOUR board to download
and import mail onto their own boards. A normal user, even a sysop,
should NEVER have this toggled on for their security profile.
Sometimes the missing tags are caused by configuration problems in your
MUSTANG.CFG and/or TNET.CFG files. Please review the other files in this
information packet and the TNET documentation, and make sure the
IMPORTTAG and EXPORTTAG lines in MUSTANG.CFG correctly reflect the
following:
IMPORTTAG = M , MSI SupportNET: MSI HQ! BBS ■ 805-395-0650
EXPORTTAG = M , MSI SupportNET: Your BBS ■ City, ST ■ 1-805-555-1212
Please edit the EXPORTTAG field so that the MSI SupportNET
identification, plus your own BBS name, location, and phone number are
shown. Also, be sure you are calling the correct tagline in the
configuration for each conference, for example:
CONF = 52 ; MSI WILDCAT
HUBNUM = 52
PRIVATE = Y ; allow private mail so admin messages can be sent
TAG = M ; Make sure you use the same letter as your IMPORTTAG
; and EXPORTTAG
NEXTMSG = 0
(note CONF = and NEXTMSG = are examples only).
Also, please be sure NOT to read and reply to messages in MUSTANG.QWK
using an offline reader, or online at MSI HQ. To ensure proper insertion
of taglines, you MUST import your messages to your WILDCAT messages base
and do your reading and replying there, or by downloading a local Tomcat
packet.
